With almost 7 years since their last full length Seeing Eye Dog, rock royalty Helmet return with Dead To The World. Helmet has been made up of many members through the years, from other incredible bands such as Battles, Biohazard, Anthrax, and Bush, all headed up by Page Hamilton. So, as ever, expect this to be a record that pushes the ‘alternative’ in alternative rock.

It seems as though today Page Hamilton records under the 'Helmet' moniker, but sadly it doesn't sound much like the Helmet of the 90's. That being said, Dead To The World is an improvement from the shaky Seeing Eye Dog, but Hamilton is still honing his songwriting and vocal chops and as a result, gives record a surprisingly psych-pop feel despite the usual brand of guitar noise and heavy grunge riffs. "Green Shirt", for example, is great - but if you told me that was Helmet, I would have difficulty believing it because it's that far outside what you'd expect from them.
The closer "Life or Death (Slow)" however is a lot more inventive than what most of the other 'Generation X' bands seems to produce regularly. I do not know if the mixture of rock, noise, grunge, psych pop and nu metal is for everyone, but all things considered, it works out well for me.
