Ignatz, previously released on West Yorkshire’s very own Tor Press, now has new LP The Drain cross-released by US label Feeding Tube and the K-RAAK-K imprint in his own native Belgium. The Drain is, as ever, focused around Ignatz’ delicate and lightly strange guitar, though some of his singing creeps into the mix too. Edition of 500 LPs.

- The Drain by Ignatz
I definitely prefer West Yorkshire to Belgium. Not that I have anything against Belgium but it's a bit...um...flat. Ignatz is a Belgium based guitarist who once released on West Yorkshire label Tor Press so this is how I'm making the connection.
The music he makes however would be good for a post walk lie down after climbing the steep hill that leads to Height Road, Mytholmroyd. It's lo-fi evocative and cleverly fingerpicked acoustic guitar with wisps of vocals fluttering in here and there. Sounds like he's recorded the whole thing to some kind of saturated tape. It has a lovely compressed sound which suits the composition perfectly. This combination reminds me sometimes of the very early work of Iron and Wine and sometimes of those pre-fame recordings of Nick Drake picking away in his mothers house.
There's a rural, rustic feel to this which makes me wish I'd just gone and booked that damn chalet in the woods. Really nice stuff.
