Two massive tracks from Massive Attack. The Spoils is a soft and string filled ballad that gets under the skin, featuring the haunting vocals of Hope Sandoval. And on the flip side Ghost Poet channels Spaceape over a lunging bass driven half time track with a pluck string melody. Presented on coloured vinyl and in stunningly printed sleeves.

- The Spoils by Massive Attack
A couple more new tracks from the lords of trip-hop which as usual featuring guest slots from the world of showbiz.
I have to admit I'm not feeling this Hope Sandoval track at all. Her voice just doesn’t have the emotional range to cope with the sweeping string-laden arrangement and it all comes across as rather bland. Imagine a Dido ballad and you are pretty much there.
Better is Ghostpoet’s ‘Come Near Me’ which is dark and brooding and more like the terrifying atmospheres you expect from Massive Attack. The major issue I’m having is that Ghostpoet’s delivery is so distinctive that this could just be an outtake from (and nowhere near as good as anything on) his recent ‘Shedding Skin’ opus. You do wonder if handpicking some lesser known talents to collaborate with might pay dividends.
