Mirage, the second full-length from Josefin Öhrn and her group The Liberation, is a psychedelic record that is more interesting and unusual than a whole lot of psychedelic records. Öhrn’s cool vocals and melodic craft bring a Broadcasty touch that is very welcome. Both CD and vinyl editions come dressed in a holographic sleeve! On Rocket.

Lots of sales of this. Ah they are are touring with Goat.
They make a series of psych raaga's that are based around one big droning chord and the distinctive vocals of their not so secret weapon Josefin Ohrn. Her whispery vocals often recall Alison Goldfrapp especially on the delicious drone of 'Sister Green Eyes'. This juxtaposition between the pummelling rock and the quiet-as-a-mouse vocals work really nicely and creates an atmosphere that the band don't really veer from across the record.
On 'In Madrid' the pulsing electronics recall Silver Apples and on 'Endless Ocean' she floats above fuzzed out, shoegaze guitars. This is the sort of record that will appeal to fans of the legendary psych lot all the way from Jefferson Airplane all the way to Broadcast through to the recent Jane Weaver work. The tracks pulse and pummel with extreme energy but is uniquely intimate. What I like about the record is that a) it doesn't destroy your ears with volume preferring to gently ease you into its world and b) decides on a sound pretty early and sticks to it ensuring that once you are locked into their enlightening world there's no way you want out.
