I love Jack White. So when this retrospective (because this is definitely for of a career catalogue than a 'best of') was announced, I leapt at the pre-order.

Having listened to both discs multiple times now, I am very happy with my purchase and will definitely listen hundreds more times. The further you listen through White's career, however, the more you come across tracks that are just the normal album tracks with stuff removed and this is a bit less exciting to listen to than the acoustic demos and some other great tracks that have been redone with violins and banjos etc.

Still, for big Jack White fans, this is still a must buy as you're getting real bang for your acoustic buck when you're listening to the White Stripes and Raconteurs sections as the acoustic versions have a real intimate magic and a completely different feeling to their electric counterparts.

The quality of the vinyl, packaging and booklet is phenomenal and I did take my time reading through and appreciating just how much effort that Third man records put in.

Thoroughly recommended.

If you have all of Jack White’s proper albums (including with his many side groups), this compilation is kind of unnecessary for you. For the most part, I would advise you to buy the few reworked songs and the one new track, and be done with it. If you’re new to Jack White, or if you’re one of those people who has a few of his albums, but never really ventured past downloading a few extra radio-song singles to go with your few albums, this collection is perfect for what it is. It contains all of his best acoustic songs in one place.
