Sun Ship by The Brian Jonestown Massacre

Well the good news is that there's a new the Brian Jonestown Massacre album due in October but while we wait for “Third World Pyramid” to land we must be grateful for these two taster tracks released on honey coloured vinyl (how delightful). If it beats the incredible 'Revelation' I'll eat a horse but it's always nice to hear new material from this long running psych collective.

Here's a taster of the new LP made by our friend, tweet mate and owner of the world's most charismatic sideburns Anton Newcombe. A couple of minutes into 'The Sun Ship' i thought I was listening to some '67 era the Beatles outtake such is the spiralling psychedelia and granny-glassed whimsy. Very 'I am the Walrus' chord changes are married with Newcombe's strung out delayed vocals for the sort of tune which makes you want to grow a moustache. Overleaf we switch from one set of '60s icons to another with the severely Syd Barrett influenced 'Playtime'.  A set of endearingly enigmatic chord changes lead to something that could have been hooked off 'Piper At the Gates of Dawn' for being just too damn fanciful.

Enjoyed this. Looking forward to the album.
