2814 are in the business of shimmering electronic ambience, operating with a distinctly dreamy aesthetic. Rain Temple could be the soundtrack to an area of Metroid Prime, or an animation about future Tokyo. It is released, suitably enough, on the Dream Catalogue label, as a very attractive double LP set.
9/10 Jamie Staff review, 15 November 2016
Sonically and psycho-geographically today, I have drifted from the placid chill of a Moscow enclave to mystical-mythical soothing lakeside balm, to grubby basement clubs in ‘90s Bristol. It falls, then, to those newest of new-vape-lectro-age-sters Dream Catalogue with their sound vapours to transport me back to the cities inhabiting my mind… but only in my most lucidly unreal of visions.
For 2814 (Hong Kong Express / HKE and t e l e p a t h) it’s a perma-rainy world populated by shiny glass-and-aluminium structures, where a storm threatens to erupt at any time and tension is always palpable in the wafer-thin air. The light is always tinged deep violet. Like Blade Runner (or a future Tokyo) overrun with doll-like automata and glistening metallic orbs suspended outside the 34th floor of each block. Sprawling, ethereal, droning synth and dripping wet electro-drums make up this sound, with the occasional slightly muffled vocal oozing through the dense layers now and then. It’s actually pretty sweet but don’t listen to it on your own. You should be with someone who cares about you, just in case.
