- Glasz EP by Lanark Artefax
8/10 Ant Staff review, 28 July 2016
Imagine you’re a steel ball bearing travelling through a pinball machine, rebounding and clattering until you disintegrate and evaporate, and you could be in Lanark Artefax track ‘All That Is Solid Melts Into Air’ which opens the young Glaswegians producer’s ‘Glasz’ EP on Lee Gamble’s UIQ label. ‘Remainder 1’ involves clattering, stuttering broken rhythms, gnarly bass and emotive icy synth and comes off like a daydream being downloaded into a cyborg.
Over on the flip, the title cut has a similar dreamlike feel stretched across clanging, complex robotic Grime like beats and heavy effects processing. ‘Phasze’ is a collision of twanging sci-fi zaps and vocal samples while ‘Virtual Bodies’ sounds like Mark Fell shattering Timbaland into a zillion pieces.
Check if you dig Rabit, M.E.S.H., Visionist etc.
