Lejonslaktets play laid-back psychedelic folk-rock in a Swedish style: they could quite easily be the entertainment on a summer retreat to a distant cabin. Every part of their sound flows smoothly and without angst: this self-titled album is just laden with good vibes. Released in an edition of 500 vinyl copies on the Fonomonik label.

In an error that could have proved catastrophic for the human race as we know it I accidentally put this in Laurie’s pile. The look of utter bewilderment on his face as he uttered ‘what is this?’ will long haunt.    Thank God the mistake was spotted before he played it as lord knows what he'd have made of this perky Swedish crew. They make a kind of happy clappy psychedelic brew which sounds a little like Herman Dune messing around with some beakers in a laboratory.    The opening two tracks confuse. ‘Slapp Mig Fri’ (google translator says ‘Slap My Thigh’ though I'm not sure) is as happy as a group of exchange students on their way to a summer residential course yet ‘Trygghetens Rus’ is an instrumental. And no matter how many times I play it the only word I can think to describe it is ‘instrumental. Things start to get a bit more interesting on ‘Skogsvandringar’ which is a stoned acoustic piece with soft vocals somewhere betwixt Goat and Tunng. There’s also something of the Super Furry Animals in this weird lilting acoustic psych rock.    Lejonslaktet mean no harm. They are happy enough sitting cross legged on a carpet singing their tunes in an understated manner. They are fond of the Pink Floyd keyboard sound and why not? It's at times a bit cheesy but at others rather delicious indeed particularly the hazed out, outrageously stoned ’Som Om Sanden Rinner Ut’. A note to lovers of the English language  - they sing in foreign tongue but it makes no difference to me. Still enjoyed it.
