This ‘errorprone’ limited edition cassette self released by the artist is the debut album from Manchester's Sanjuro77 -- but this guy is no newcomer to experimental electronic music. He’s been at it for 25 years and this album really shows he’s certainly no noob. Across fifteen tracks (plus bonus 6-track digital download EP) of improvised digital modular experiments for laptop there are mind boggling constantly evolving dynamic sequences of rattling, clattering, morphing digital sound. There’s certainly an affinity with the work of Chris Douglas (Dalglish, Seaes) whom the artist states as an influence and is also somewhere in the same ballpark as Autechre’s recent live recordings. There’s no loops or hooks to grasp onto - the sounds feel alive like a living organism that’s only part machine or artificial intelligence that has evolved to a state that’s actually alive.
The second part of the album moves away from the hyper glitched, scrunched up ricocheting sounds and into blissed ambient territory, again he makes no secret of his influences and here we can hear that Leyland Kirby’s productions have rubbed off on him, but this is far from being a clone. After the chaotic brain pummelling sounds of the previous tracks these feel particularly tranquil and soothing.
