This is the very first album from everyone’s favourite (presumably-former?) hobo bluesman Seasick Steve, recorded in 2004 with a pair of Scandinavians (The Level Devils). Cheap sounds cheap, but it's also full of heart and soul and gnarly guitar, presented raw and unadulterated. Reissued by There’s A Dead Skunk on CD and vinyl.

Seasick Steve & The Level Blues are cheap, bawdy, natural, down-home and high-brow all at the same time. I dig it, I dig it, and I recommend it to anyone with a taste for roadhouse rhythm and blues. Bare bones blues intercut with a few short interviews, this is a great album that, unlike some contemporaries, wears its influences well. Just like all his other albums, this one takes the cake also. It's not very hard to get into his groove quickly but most of the time you want to hear more of his life's little stories.
