CPU rarely if ever go wrong and this latest release will appeal to all fans of melodic techno. Confusingly you get either a 4 track 12" or an 12 track CD, I know which I'd have. Musically this Maltese artist mines the same rich seam as AFX did on the Analord series. Bleepy, tuneful acidy techno and pure squelshy fun.

Maltese producer Microlith is the latest name to be added to the roster of increasingly influential electronic music label CPU. The label Warp could have been? Discuss.   This will easily appeal to ageing fans of listenable-era Autechre as well as those excellent tuneful 12”s that used to come out on Skam back in the day. 'Dance With Me' is very, very squelshy acidy electronica with a haunting melody that even ‘Analord’; era AFX would be proud of. I could bang on about this track all day but there are four more tracks on the vinyl (and an incredible 11 on the CD) so we must not get bogged down.   ‘Bouncy Castle’ has a very similar acid squelshline flip it and we get the moodier and darker ‘Leave Now‘ with burbling bass and skittering electronic beats.  ‘Rain Dance‘ is led by buzzing synths picking out bubbly melodies and other than the first track is the most danceable and friendly of the lot. My one criticism of the tracks I’ve heard is that they are very, very similar to each other, down to the exact same 'acid squelsh' settings being used. I’d like a bit more variation in this but in ‘Dance With Me‘ and ‘Rain Dance‘ there are two killer tracks here for acid techno heads to enjoy.
