This is the first recorded collaboration we’ve heard in some time from the pairing of Perc and Truss, 2 producers who have long been dedicated to the harder forms of techno. The 3 tracks of Leather & Lace are melodic, but they also seethe with banging acid rhythms and noisy sonic flares. Very fine stuff, pressed to clear vinyl. On Perc Trax Limited.

Thump, thump, thump, it’s, techno. BIG techno, too, from big fella Perc and his buddy Truss, who’s been releasing on Perc Trax for a while now. They’ve made stuff together too, a 12” called ‘Two Hundred’ in 2014; this would be a better review if I had heard it properly. From an audio glance over the title track, it seems to be more acidic than the title track of this, which centres around a pumping, classic sounding pitched synth that kinda dominates the whole thing apart from a looped vocal, some spitting hats and some animalistic squeaks.
Over on the label side, which I think is at 33 otherwise Perc is now making speed-gabba which is entirely possible. I’m already enjoying B1 more than the A, with a slightly more steady pound and a mix that is a bit less crowded, leaving space for machine-gun synths to creep in before what sounds like a building slowly collapsing enters and the thing descends into distorted ground noise, before boom you’re back into the beat. Basically, get it for this track. The B2 is interesting too, without the loud thump of the kick but just the same machine rhythms, making for a good DJ tool to put at the beginning of a set or in the middle to provide a breather.
