This is a split EP between Russian band Gnoomes and Swedish group Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation. Both are clearly in love with electronic takes on the motorik vibes of krautrock, as pulsing rhythms and Repetitions are at the core of the music here. The bands also remix each other here. 12” on Rocket Recordings.

7/10 Clinton Staff review, 18 May 2016

This is the worst 12" ever for the labels to be pressed the wrong way round.

I'm confused as it is. Apparently it’s a split LP where two bands, one Russian, one Swedish perform two songs of their own then remix each other. Simple really.

Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation...nope Gnoomes  do a couple of dreamily motorilk type pulse-a-thons, the first being the better of the two with gradually building intensity, fabulous Stephen Morris drums and droning guitars but the best thing happens when they get remixed by Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation. The latter creates an undulating techno thump and oscillates synths atop using shards of vocals for a never changing slab of slow growing tech shoegaze.

All this whets the appetite for what Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation actually do and it turns out it is motorik psych  - perhaps what we might expect. The first track is a little by numbers for me at first but i’m soon warming to it’s atmospheres which are created by droning a mountainful of synths. The second track is a little Brian Jonestown. . As with the other side the most ambitious and experimental work is the remix. Here Gnoomes build up a stunningly intense slab of kraut oscillation with big drum whacks.

Overall there are enough wobbly synths and motorik grooves to fell a horse....and I think I've got all the names the right way around.
