Chicago house overlord Mr. Fingers has been smashing it since the 80s, and L.I.E.S. have sat on these cheeky numbers since the release of Simoncino’s EP back in 2014. With the first take beefing the original up to rattle that chest, and flip over on to the dark side for a cleaner tighter groove out.
8/10 Ant Staff review, 14 April 2016
House music legend Larry Heard turns in a solid pair of remixes of Simone Vescovo’s ‘Beyond The Dance’ from his ‘Abele Dance’ 12” also on L.I.E.S. Simoncio’s productions are largely informed by original Chicago school house ,so it must be pretty thrilling for the producer seeing things come full circle - getting remixed by one of his influences.
The mix on the A-side has a loop that reminds me of a really old house tune and I can’t think of what it is and it’s doing my nut in. As you’d expect from Lord Heard it’s on point, deep, melodic and effortless to get lost in the groove and shimmering melodies. Personally though I way prefer the ‘Dark Mix’ over on the flip; with its melancholy bassline, stompin’ kick, mesmerising synth loop, and cosmic sparkling melodies it’s pure energising joy - at once euphoric and melancholy this will have any dancefloor locked into an ecstatic trance. When real, pure, house music like this hits you - there really is nothing quite like it. A master at work.
