No messing about from Neil Cosgrove here: this tape dives deep into a pool of vintage acid, resurfacing 13 tracks later with a smile on its face. Bum Montage is a squelchy, peak-hour set of acid action, produced like a boss. A mere 40 copies of this album, presented on cassette, are available, so be speedy! On Conditional.

The third tape from Conditional is by far the most accessible release from the label thus far. I was expecting a mental acid squelch noise assault but ‘Bum Montage’ is surprisingly conventional and melodic in comparison to previous releases.
‘Dildo Baggins’ could be some long lost early style Rephlex (R.I.P) acid track. It’s acid all the way - but you’ll not find a TB-303 present, as Neil Cosgrove created these trax using his very own LNX Studio software. The advantage here being you’d need like four 303’s or something to make these tracks and to do that you either need to be rich or do a ram-raid on the local Happy Shopper.
There’s some really nice tracks on here that take advantage of the possibilities offered by software as a tool without becoming overly complex or gimmicky. Neil sticks to the fundamentals of acid trax but offers dynamic, evolving tracks that aren’t solely loop based. Imaginative, playful and fun 21st Century Acid. Check if you’re into Jodey Kendrick, Global Goon etc.
