7/10 Clinton Staff review, 07 July 2016
Interestingly…no….worryingly I was marked down to review this even though I’m the review picker guy and I didn’t choose myself. Please be assured that an investigation has already opened.
I’m quite pleased about this turn of events however firstly as I can gaze admiringly at the turquoise vinyl and secondly B12 are making some nice bleepy slo-mo techno that is giving my ears something to be thankful for. There’s a mysterious lengthy opening groove before ‘In Pieces’ wanders into site with it’s spinning clattery percussion and friendly synths combining bloops with glassy stretched out notes. ‘Over Hear’ has some less melodic bloops with marching beats before I flip over to find ‘Battle Within’ doing its thing on side B. B12 are veterans of the ‘90s golden era but don’t seem to have lost their mojo as this slow moving slab of bubbling electronics which uses percussion that redefines the word ‘skitter’ alongside emotional bleeps to convey a sense of intense longing.
Fans of Skam records and early Autechre please take note.
