8/10 Clinton Staff review, 07 April 2016

Arovane made one of my favourite albums ever in 'Tides' a beautiful spring-like opus of acoustics and electronics that no home should be without.  I've lost track over the years but Ian here tells me he still does good music. His move to Echochord singles a move away from the light into the dark and as with everything on Echochord this is dark, drizzly dub techno expertly done.

The opening 'Modul' is the bloopiest piece here with a nice and eat four to the floor kick underpinning skittering electronics with some fabulous dub FX drifting in and out, hissier yet is 'Modul' with a stretched out hi-end snake synth making a plump pillow for a repetitive loop. This is perfectly constructed minimalist house. You'll be lucky if anything happens but it slowly draws you in by doing nothing except increase the intensity.

Overleaf 'Modul5' literally sounds like one of those days where it rains all day, the fractured synths dribbling down the sill whilst thumping four four kicks echo distant thunder. Slightly more upbeat is 'Modul3' with a stuttery rhythm that picks out an actual melody.

Nice moody electronics for your bleakest moments.
