Model 500 is of course a pseudonym for Detroit super-producer Juan Atkins. On this EP first released in 1985, Atkin lays down the foundation blocks of the Detroit electro / techno sound: this 12” includes a version of the very first Model 500 single, and it still sounds fresh 30 years later. Night Drive is re-pressed by Metroplex.

True story: I wanted to call my first child Metroplex but my wife was having none of it...
This is, in my opinion, among one of thee finest records any human being could ever wish to own. Originally released back in 1985 - it still sounds like the future. I could fucking cry thinking about how utterly life affirming this 12” is. It’s enhanced my quality of life in the same way Lotus ‘Biscoff’ Crunchy Biscuit Spread has. You know the stuff that can transform a slice of bread into a biscuit sandwich. A true gift to humanity.
Remember when techno sounded like it was from another planet? These are eternal Detroit techno/ electro alltime classics - incredible, visionary, seminal Juan Atkins productions that took Kraftwerk’s blueprint man-machine aesthetic to the next level. Also on here is the ‘D-Mix’ of debut Model 500 12” ‘No UFO’s’. A tidy variation on the original, not to be sniffed at. This is the shit that I get out of bed for everyday.
If you don’t own a copy buy on sight. If you own an original, buy a clean repress. If you don’t own a turntable or have yet to experience the magic of Juan Atkins’ Metroplex productions then get hold of the ‘20 Years of Metroplex’ compilation 2CD on Tresor. And now I can’t even write anymore while listening, because I’ve just transformed into one huge goose pimple.
