This is the debut album of Margo Price, a new country artist who seemingly has the whole history of Nashville and Memphis running through her veins. Midwest Farmer’s Daughter has the kind of poetic narratives the best country relies on, as well as a classic bar-band sound and Margo’s expressive vocals. Out on Jack White’s Third Man Records.

This is very much a throwback album with a very classic feel - great songwriting and wonderful honky-tonk arrangements. Price's voice is clear and pretty and the lyrics are sincere, funny, deep and sorrowful. If you're into country/pop/American Idol/screaming crap, this isn't the record for you. However, if you're like me, and you pine for the days of listening to the smart 'simpleton' lyrics of folks like Roger Miller, Willie Nelson, Loretta, or any number of classic country musicians, well, brother, you need to buy.
