Veteran of the world of outsider beatmaking Odd Nosdam returns with a new full-length, Sisters. LA’s Low End Theory nights have been a big part of the Nosdam world for a while now, and that is reflected here both in the overall dreamy-woozy vibe and in the presence of Teebs on one track. LP on Leaving Records.

9/10 Staff review, 23 March 2016

Is Nosdam not the new Dilla yet? A million years in the making, his wonderful brand of dream haze hip-hop production is just beginning to crawl through the cracks and blinking into the sunlight we call the mainstream. Mainly because of that Boards of Canada mix but really, why have we been ignoring him all these years? A slo-burn do-it-for-the-production man, Nosdam wisely cleared off out of the Anticon stable following the dissolution of his legendary nerd-hop trio cLOUDDEAD and has since sorta done his own thing under the radar. Whether he likes it or not, 'Sisters' will gain him new fans.

Opener 'Bow They Will !!!' (his exclamation marks, not ours) is a superb lolloping slice of washed out sampledelic hip-hop which will catch all ears on it's way to the wondrous heat haze of 'Profane Bong Sue' which is the sound of beats played just too slow whilst FSA-like feedback loops churn and waver 'neath.  The impressive thing? It's hard to actually categorize this. These are tape sliced loops that have been left out in the sun far too long, hip-hop's answer to sun stroke....via shoegaze.

Nosdam ain't afraid to rock a big beat on the penultimate 'Burrow', yet closer 'Centre' sounds more like Sun City Girls than any hip-hop influenced artist has a right to. An excellent album all round and get it listened to immediately as it may well be Monday's head nodders water cooler topic.
