M. Beckmann is a busy guy… Having self-released over 15 albums under The Volume Settings Folder he’s releasing his first vinyl in the form of Laguna on Oscarson. This is gorgeous, expansive, post-everything ambient music. Highly influenced by Sigur Ros and The Album Leaf but with the minimalism and solitude of Caught in the Wake Forever.

Italian produced M. Beckmann's first vinyl release -- also on CD in a black envelope with a grainy monochrome photo on card insert -- is an absorbing and expansive journey.
Beckmann has a sketch-and-improv attitude to ambient/drone/post-rock composition, which on "Laguna" crackles and glides at glacial pace, revealing texture upon hidden texture with repeated listens. There are layers of scratchy strings, slightly scraped violin figures and cellos -all wobbly and grainy and reminiscent of a distant, reverberant and vocal-free Sigur Ros or The Album Leaf. The stretched out drones are highly evocative and calming and it's an album that will slowly suck you in rather than shout in your face.
It's all very harmonious and charming and I look forward to listening to this again, at home in the comfort of my favourite armchair, with a cup of chamomile and my two indifferent cats.
