Parlophone reissued a range of David Bowie albums in the Five Years boxset in 2015: now these nice 180g vinyl versions are being released individually too. Here is Bowie’s second album under his stage name, released in 1969. Along with early folk-Bowie, it also provides the first glimmers of the genius that was soon to arise. 2015 remastered versions.

8/10 Jack 13th February 2016David Bowie was 19 when this album was released, and it is proof of the origination of his unearthly writing genius. Released in 1967, its sound has its own light oddness, but it's distinctly mid-1960's London. However, the album's sounds are extremely contradictory to the subject matter; the incongruities of suburban London. The track "Please Mr. Gravedigger", is the story of a gravedigger with an unhealthy fetish. Its subjects that lie within remain to be explored by the listener. From politics to things that seem to be plainly silly, but deserve the most inquiry.
