9/10 Alice Customer review, 19th April 2016
The alternative rock band, the 1975, launched their second album, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of it,this spring. It is a hauntingly beautiful sequel to the cult classic 'the 1975', and While it retains the well known pop style, the album has developed a much more distinct style, that brings back the 80's pop. The first half of the album is largely the band's signature pop style, made famous for by songs such as 'Chocolate' and 'Girls', hitting the charts in 2013. 'The Sound' is timeless, and follows the lead of the popular tracks from the first album. Mixed with flawless instrumentals, it is a tune that will never fail to bring a crowd to their feet in pure happiness.
However, the second half of the album becomes more soulful, featuring the tracks 'She Lays Down', 'Nana' and 'Paris'. The soft voice of Matt Healy could bring anyone close to tears in these tracks, with an array of lyrics to match the sounds. What's interesting is the contrast in mood between the songs, which combine to make something this brilliant. If you're looking for some feel-good car music, this album is great, though mind you're not feeling too emotional, 'Nana' might cause you to well up. overall i think this is a must have, not to mention the clean aesthetic of the packaging, pastel coloured artwork with two clear vinyls. Perfect.
