All I know is that it’s heavy...Rangda’s surreal The Heretic’s Bargain incorporates surf guitar, free-improv shronk and all type of post-rock weirdness. Chris Corsano, Sir Richard Bishop and Ben Chasny have now completely nailed the dynamics in their raw guitar and drums trio. Drag City are putting this out on vinyl LP and CD.

A supergroup comprising three fellow Drag City signees (guitarists Ben Chasny and Sir Richard Bishop and drummer Chris Corsano), Rangda's main goal is making long, instrumental guitar and percussions jams. Their third album ‘The Heretic’s Bargain’ sees them taking another step further from what they were before, creating a fuller and more consistent sound while adding varied styles to their instrumental psych mix, such as the Middle Eastern-flavoured "Spiro Agnew" and the mangled drone cacophony of "Hard Times Befall the Door-to-Door Glass Shard Salesman". But it is the 19-minute closer "Mondays Are Free at the Hermetic Museum" where they take you on a guitar-rock journey through the vast desert that successfully combines patience and deliberation with speed and accuracy. Rangda haven't sounded as cohesive before as they have here, and you can only wonders what mind-altering dimensions this trio will reach in the future.
