Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe is a man many of you will be familiar with from his excellent  long player on Type, or older material as Lichens. As well as being a member of Om, 90 Day Men and a recent collaboration with Ariel Kalma. Demdike Stare have scooped him up for their DDS imprint and caught him in real-time analogue/ modular techno mode.

First up the unfurling groove of ‘Cognition’ breaks the monotonous loop mould of much techno without wandering into relentless modular synth noodling. Things feel free yet fully under control - retaining an infectious structure throughout, subtly snaking metallic sounds slither like a chrome serpent, coming off like a less rigid T++ production.

‘Observation’ has a similar futuristic sound palette -  subtly worming its way into the subconscious via throbbing technoid bassline and bleeps recalling old Jamal Moss stuff circa 2005 as The Sun God on Frantic Flowers and Klang Elektronik. The subtlety and nuance through both tracks is pretty irresistible to the point I’ve now transformed into one of those nodding dogs. Woof!
