Dekmantel launch their Selectors series with Detroit house, funk and disco encyclopedia Motor City Drum Ensemble. The tracks on this unmixed double vinyl LP and CD represent the obscurest and most essential tunes from his collection. Boogie synths, soulful house and deep disco you’ve never heard before, are all present.  MCDE’s marathon DJ sessions are legendary and this is rare glimpse in his record bag.

9/10 AKS Customer review, 14th April 2017

This is a pretty great compilation of hard to find and lesser known house and disco cuts.

The packaging is a nice touch and the inserts explain why MCDE has chosen each track and what they mean to him. Clearly, choosing a handful of tracks to showcase an individuals touch or knowledge is always going to be a subjective experience. However, the overall package is impressive.

The first two tracks, 'Luv Music' and 'Hold your Head Up' are incredible cuts that were able to evoke a sense of joy and sunshine on a gray rainy day and were my personal highlights.

Given the large chunks of disco that feature heavily in MCDE's sets, i was looking forward to the final four tracks on the album. Despite their rarity and interesting background, I felt that the smile decreased in size whilst listening to them. They left me feeling slightly cold compared to the first four tracks, perhaps due to a slight feeling of repetition in tone.

Overall I would highly recommend this album on the basis of the first two tracks alone. If you've enjoyed any of MCDE's previous sets its a good way of capturing the essence of his mixes in a short album format.
