Prospect by Fluxion

Fluxion did a sterling work expanding the reach and meaning of dub at the turn of the millennium, taking ambient techno and pushing it deeper into the echo chamber. The wonderful dub techno textures of Prospect were originally released on Mark Ernestus and Moritz Von Oswald’s Chain Reaction label: this reissue is from Subway Bcn.

Absolutely loads of Fluxion re-issues in this week  - well three actually. I’ve picked this one out of the three to review as….well… we have the most copies of it and at the end of the day it’s all about commerce isn't it? After the very short introduction of ‘Prospect 1’ we get two large slabs of atmospheric dub-techno which needs the volume turned right up. Firstly to block out the sounds of the ‘Sugarape’ offices next door, secondly to grab all the nuances beneath the gently lolling beats. ‘Prospect 2’ is very repetitive with tape delays being slowly added as the track progresses.

Overleaf ‘Oblique’ uses a very similar strategy with swirling atmospheres and pulsating low end creating a mellow bed rock for the experiments in delayed sound. I find this music just perfect. Very little happens over the course of each 11 minute track but like the music of Deepchord and Gas it sends a perfect mood for you to wallow in. Spot-on turn of the millennium dub techno.
