Streethawk: A Seduction by Destroyer

The 2001 album from Destroyer, Streethawk: A Seduction, properly reissued. Smart indie-tinged epic pop of the high quality you’d expect from Dan Bejar: indeed, this early album was one of the albums that established his remarkable reputations, containing many fan favourites. Streethawk: A Seduction by Destroyer

9/10 Jack 18th December 2015

This follow-up to Destroyer's 1999 masterpiece "Thief" is an essential slice of literary pop from the current-day's master purveyor of this form, Dan Bejar. His voice is a sublimely confident and endearing instrument that perfectly complements his intensely clever lyrics and complex musical arrangements. If I were to describe this musically I'd give nods to Ziggy/Hunky-era Bowie, Mott the Hoople, possibly Robyn Hitchcock (though I like Bejar better), and maybe a smattering of Belle and Sebastian.
