Norway has always been a great country for alternative music, especially psychedelia and shoegaze. Halloween in Bagamoyo is the third album from vocalist and composer Anita Kaasbøll, under the name of Bladed. There’s a great sense of storytelling and of melody here, whilst the music remains suitably psychedelic. It has a dark-pop feeling, similar to artists such as Gwenno.
Interestingly enough, the vinyl come with a booklet, paraphrasing Morton Stanley’s In Darkest Africa. Stanley wrote on his belief in scientifically proven racial superiority. A limited number of the booklets are hardbacks, hand bound and marbled with the colours of the national costumes and flag of Tanzania.
