'Name's Clinton and I'm a Nosdam old jack. 'Member this guy in his cLOUDDEAD days making the rhythms for those twin wordsmiths Why? and Dose to holler over. Now he does his own thing, albums production you name it. Back in '13 he made a tape dedicated to Trish our fallen hero of Broadcast and to mark her passing the cats at Sonic Cathedral haver vinylized it.
A and B sides are different. B1 is gorgeous but we'll get to that in a sec. Lets listen to 'Taikair' first, a seriously lo-fi heat-haze, tempos drop, disembodied voices emerge out the murk. Nosdam knows how to do it. 'Lonjae' a slowed down sample somewhere between the first Adventures in Stereo and any the Caretaker and 'Donuts'. I'm liking the strobe drone of 'Ladders' but lets flip because I want to talk about B1 again. It's called 'Olynn' and is a great spliced piece of ambience - underneath it just the suggestion of a pulsing bass. After the mangled interlude 'Equal' we get the real 'Trish' and guess who is on voice? Yup Grouper. Her voice cascades over the shards of sonic detritus Nosdam throws in. What a fucking loop.
This is more than just a tribute. It's a great fucking record. Forward thinking, incomparable, essential.
