merry6mas2015 continues the lovely tradition of Yellow6 releasing a special festive collection every year for the fans to celebrate the season with. Some tracks missed the boat for last album No Memories, Only Photographs, others were written quickly and recently, catching passing snatches of inspiration. All recorded (pretty much) in one take for an intimate feel. 125 CD copies, in a hand-sprayed sleeve.
REVIEWS
I'm very pleased to know that Jon Atwood has a favourite corner. He has beautifully soundtracked it on the track 'My Favourite Corner' on this his latest release of gorgeous textural ambience. Please tweet us with your own personal favourite corner.
I have a feeling that one day in the future some hip person will discover all these low run CDRs and rightly decide that Jon Atwood is some kind of Vini Reilly-esque guitar genius and get it all re-issued on lush vinyl and then you'll be sorry about that time you missed him perform at Bradford Fuse.
This is his latest 6Mas CD, a tradition that has pretty much overtaken the advent calendar in marking the countdown to Christmas. Like the others in the series Atwood picks out all his lost experiments and like some kind of ambient Santa Claus delivers them to you in time for the big day. The track I'm listening to right now 'The End of a Gloomy Week' is perfect fodder for this time of year. Slow moving guitar soundscapes - just two carefully chosen chords going back and forth, slightly reverbed and with additional textures added before a mournful piano brings things to a close. Perfect for soundtracking looking out the window at the grey.
Apologies for not reviewing the whole CD but already this has been a lovely detour away from thinking about Norman Records latest crisis.
