Leftfield techno produced in a pleasingly direct manner: single take recordings using one drum machine, one echo unit, and a modular synth by the duo of Daniele Cosmo and CCO. Unpleasant Music For Unpleasant People is nice and dark, and full of on-the-fly development. 12” on Cosmo’s label Lux Rec.

Despite the potentially misleading title - I’m finding this EP most pleasant indeed. A quick glance at the artist and title and you’d be forgiven for thinking this was some arse ripping power electronics. Fear not techno fiends, you’re in the right place. This is the second EP on Zurich label Lux Rec from the duo of label founder Daniele Cosmo and Florin Büchel aka Contra Communem Opinionem (Mathematics) etc.
Scuzzy analogue techno is the order of the day; created with Roland Space Echo, 808 and modular synth - there’s a raw gritty authenticity to these tracks. Opening with the brooding, menacing and acidic ‘Uproar’; complete with caustic, gurgling bassline. Onto the euphoric and tantalizing ‘Soaring’ and over to the flipside, where we get the rugged as hell ‘Motoric’ with crumbling, distorted drums and effervescent fizzing synths. Finally ‘Deranged’ sounds like Kraftwerk on crystal meth which can only ever be a good thing.
Fans of Helena Hauff, Drvg Cvltvre, Bunker, L.I.E.S., Drexciya, Borft, grubby old Belgian techno/ acid/ New Beat/ EBM and all good freaky shit etc. should sniff this out.
