Kiran Leonard is an indecently good musician, bearing in mind his tender age of 20. This isn’t even his debut… Pink Fruit is excerpted from his new full-length album Grapefruit, and the track takes several unexpected (but welcome) left turns over the course of its impressive 16 minutes. Single sided 10” on the Moshi Moshi label.

Ah the one sided etched 12”. This time it is justified as it contains the whole 16 minutes of this centrepiece from the upcoming album ‘Grapefruit’ from Oldham's finest.
Initially Leonard appears to have all the chops of a Jeff Buckley who has grown up listening only to Shellac. This is incisive, taut rock music which twists and turns this-a-way and that-a-way including such diversions as a birds nest of clarinets and guitars so dirty they sound like they’ve been dragged neck first through a filthy ditch. Although Buckley is the immediate comparison that springs to mind, Leonard eschews some of his…how you say?….. strangulated earnestness and gets to the heart of the matter producing complex-i-pop that you can hang your hat on whether you like math rock or not. The middle part breakdown references both Talk Talk and Slint before veering off into some kind of musique concrete - people doing dishes that kind of thing…. before it turns into a kind of L* M**** Y**** (name snipped by panicking lawyers) drone.
