It has apparently been 32 years since James formed: hard to believe eh? After such a long stint, they’ve elected to make a brand new record (their fourteenth). The Girl At The End Of The World is an electronically tinged set of excited indie numbers, the band obviously still enjoying the creative process. CD or double LP.

Surprises abound, starting with the first track's driving bass. "Bitch" reminded me of "It's Hot" from The Night Before, but stronger and more pulsing. It sets the tone for the rest of the album which has a rich sound marked by more dance beats and techno sounds. I'm liking the songs with the trumpet as usual and I'm just happy there's a new album to celebrate. "Surfer's Song" is very much in the same vein as all time favourite "Sometimes". Clever lyrics all 'round - the amount of 'swearing' seems a little excessive and perhaps a little forced though.
