Arnau Sala has had releases as Exoteric Continent on Opal Tapes, Hospital Productions and Second Sleep among others. Utilizing synth, tape and computer for the ‘Peninsula’ EP he creates a bleak and unnerving dystopian world. ‘Bases’ has me imagine drones hovering over the wreckage of an apocalyptic landscape; blue lights searching through black skies, reflecting on metallic surfaces of collapsed buildings, future urban decay where the seeds of nature are beginning to reclaim the earth back from the machines.
‘Subtext I / II’ on the flipside carries a similar feel, recalling a more lo-fi Giorgio Gigli in darker ambient mode - with added robotic sound design that has me feeling like I’m in the Judgement Day scenes from Terminator II. Great futuristic doomy electronic music/ gloomy techno that really left me wanting more.
