Six tracks assembled from assorted archives, on which Phlekz leads us through oddly shaped electronic tunnels that pleasingly disorientate the listener. You could dance and shuffle to this, but most likely only in a significantly altered state. Single sided C60 cassette on Mordant Music’s label.

This is purely speculation and by no means official confirmation, but I’m willing to bet my wife and three children that this here Phlekz tape on Mordant Music is the work of Nick Edwards aka Ekoplekz (erm... he did upload the promo video to YouTube).
At some point in the near future Scooby Doo and crew be rolling up in the Mystery Machine, tearing off his purple mask to reveal the West Country’s finest knob twiddler “... and I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!”.
The six tracks that dwell on the spools sound like they fell off the back of Ekoplekz’s tribute to the halcyon days of early Rephlex -- ‘Reflekzionz’. All have that dusty, golden-era early Aphex Twin Sound - re-imagined. A sound that’s both of its time and yet remains utterly timeless.
The ‘On’ referencing ‘Off’ sounds like a battered copy of aforementioned ‘On’ in the mix with classic Boards of Canada. ‘Brownfield Dub’ sounds like a squidged and smudged Polygon Window tune. ‘Drenched’ is a proper comedown weeper. Meanwhile ‘Purple Patch’ sounds like it’s being sucked through a rough as a badger’s arse filter. ‘Abhorrent (23 Yips)‘ goes for the jugular in finest ‘73 Yips’ distorto-drum-crunch acid-splurge tradition. Chewed up and gobbed out - we end up at the lush ‘This Wrekage’ that sounds like the shards of metallic swarf generated by the previous track, emerging from the sparks and smoke, gently weeping as they float up to metal heaven to be reunited with their rusty old ancestors.
Purple tapes, no doubt limited to an unknown quantity. I should grab grab one if I were you - while you bloody well can.
