Floodland was the first album produced by Sisters Of Mercy version two, released in 1987. One of the most successful examples of their morose gothery. This box-set reissue is a sprawling beast, adding the three 12” singles released in the same period, each of which is rich with alternate and extended mixes and non-album B-sides. On Rhino
8/10 Jack Customer review, 14th July 2016
Though there's a few reasons that First And Last And Always is my personal favourite of theirs, I do recognise Floodland as their best album. This tends to stand out from the other two albums because it's more consistent and epic than the debut, but less pop-metal than Vision Thing. There's no doubt the ruling tracks here are "Dominion/Mother Russia", "Lucretia My Reflection", and "This Corrosion", but some of the simpler songs are good too.
I recommend Floodland to the fans of Peter Murphy, Type O Negative, or anyone who has turned to the darkside.
