On The Hoof is a brand new label, hosted by Sunil Sharpe and operating out of Ireland. He’s decided to kick things off himself with this powerful little EP: four tracks that kick and pump and swirl around with acidic flair. The release has the very appropriate title / catalogue number of HOOF01. 12” vinyl.

8/10 Staff review, 28 October 2015

New label action here from Irish producer Sunil Sharpe, who has already started marking out techno territory having worked on the 6th release on that Brothers series among a few others before that. Basically, he’s a name. Maybe you’ll listen. Maybe you won’t. Exciting, isn’t it?

HOOF001 kicks things off with steadyish chugs and some warped looping animalistic synth lines that sounds like it’s been made by one of them noise folk. Y’know, the sort that throws the whole mix through a distortion unit or two. Little obscured snippets of vocal skullduggery spin around saying god knows what. Mind control shit. On the 1st side, both tracks share a similar midtempo pace, the A2 breaking up the straight beat with some shuffly patterns. Things get frantic when you flip over, ‘Owecha’ being a highlight for its strong energy throughout. The synths on the final track ‘Gickna’ are so raw in their dissonance that it feels like you’re fighting for your virtual life on the boss level of some obscure techno video game. So yeah an alright start leading to an amazing end.
