Russian duo Eerie Summer are apparently still in their teenage years, meaning that their bright-eyed youthful naivety is not an affectation. Perfectly formed intimate indie-pop. 7 Track Micro LP is released as a 7” on Box Bedroom Rebels, packaged with the label’s usual array of pleasing trinkets (a letter, some stickers, “spooky confetti”...).

9/10 Staff review, 22 October 2015

How did I just know that this would be good? Well there are some early clues - Box Bedroom Rebels simply does not release bad records and  the word ‘eerie’ always signifies something interesting to these ears.

What we have his seven slabs of prime lo-fi pop that has a muffled, static-y sound that can’t hard the wondrous melodies they concoct. It’s simple lo-fi pop with that haunting ’50’s type quality that a lot of indie-poppers use these days. I’m just at the end of side one and there are already several candidates for 'song of the EP'. Opener ‘Jealous’ sets it’s stall out with floaty, gleaming melodies that could have come from the pen of FM Cornog (East River Pipe), somehow even better is ‘Yr Too Cool’ which is lo-fi pop so perfect that you’d think it had been perhaps written by Daniel Johnston on one of his tuneful days. This is brilliant……and importantly it fades at just the right time.

It’s heart melting throughout and the press release is correct in mentioning Marine Girls, Grouper and Sarah Records. I can’t do better than that. A potential future indie pop classic this.
