‘Slant Deviations’ is the inaugural release on Conditional, and comes in the form of a split tape, in an edition of 50 copies. Label boss Calum Gunn has previously had releases as Acrnym and Legwarmers and also happens to be a member of Dananananaykroyd. Calum’s side of the cassette involves live-coded synthesis and computer controlled synthesizer to conjure up all manner of weird electronic squidges squelching, blasts of static, and head-mashing disorientating frequency abuse. Recommended for fans of Hecker.
Sebastian Camens gets busy on the other side with some far out modular synth action that twangs about, boings and springs out the speakers like Zebadee on crystal meth. One bit squeaks like an unfortunate little robot squirrel having it’s poor little neck wrung. Recommended for fans of EVOL and likewise Hecker.
Lots of really pure, almost tangible electronic sounds on both sides. For a few moments during the forty odd minutes listening, I felt like I was being sucked in and out of a videogame that kept crashing. Good stuff.
