Ex-Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones wrote and recorded West Kirby County Primary in the bedroom he grew up in at his Mother’s house. The album, his third, was then given some TLC at Liverpool’s Parr Studios. The lyrics are personal to the point that you feel you are listening in when you shouldn’t be. The melodies are soft and gentle with memorable choruses. The album is perhaps most reminiscent of the recent Hooton Tennis Club LP which he produced. He has also played as a live guitarist with Arctic Monkeys and produced The Wytches recently. West Kirby County Primary is available as a deluxe vinyl LP with bonus 7” which is exclusive to independent retailers, standard LP and CD.
10/10 sam leeming Customer review, 3rd January 2016
In my opinion this album was the greatest album of 2015. A very honest, simple and sweet record with beautiful confessional lyricism. If you are a fan of Elliot Smith or Sparklehorse then I can guarantee that you will love this album. The record has a few different levels to it, there are some fuzzy moments some mellow moments and some ballad moments often combined into one piece of music. There is a real sense of nostalgia contained in the record with lyrics that paint an interesting picture of West Kirby and Liverpool that give a real insight into the world of Bill. Everyone should give this record a try and definitely give it a proper headphone listen.
