The legend of Ata Kak continues to gain traction with super-catchy single Obaa Sima getting the vinyl treatment. Gloriously infectious dance music heralded by the likes of Gilles Peterson, the lo-fi styling of Obaa Sima was committed to tape in 1993 and still sounds fresh today. Out on 12” vinyl from Awesome Tapes From Africa.

7/10 Jack Customer review, 11th November 2015
If this music was dressed under the guise of a Western artist it would be complete throw away 80's non-sense. But, considering the tape came out of the depths of a road side stall in Ghana and is sung in Twee, it becomes something entirely different. Nothing ironic happening here. Most of the music sounds like stuff you'd come up with on a Casio in your bedroom. Ata Kak sings and raps in a style all his own that can only be described as bizarre, but I mean this in the best sense. There is definitely a group of weirdos out there who will appreciate this.
