Well this is crazy. US pumping noiseman Jamal Moss gets a bit lonely and gives his friend Marshall Allen a call, and then some other folks, and before you know it Greg Fox, Ben Vida, Shelley Hirsch and Daniel Carter are all in there, tooting, clanging, wailing and bleeping their way to the cosmos.
The cosmos? I forgot to mention, this is some cosmic higher-conscious hyperdrive shit. Throughout, they’re all channeling some serious Sun Ra (and indeed Sun Araw) vibes, like a sort of fusion of spiritual jazz and techno that sounds totally ridiculous. The ensemble revolves every track, shifting the tone sometimes toward naturalistic, then mechanistic, then primal, then omnidimensional whatever. Moss almost succeeds in drowning out Marshall Allen’s sax during the noisy thumper ‘Cybernetics Is an Old Science’ that is pretty much as close as you’ll get to a standard HB dance tune. Whatever that is. Speaking of thumping, who calls a track ‘Pussy Thumper’???
Yeah, it’s a lot to take in. Overwhelmed is an understatement. “Thousands and millions and thousands and millions of years old, coming into being”. It’s pretty good, I think, the sound set being varied around loose structures and tasty freakouts. And some massive massive pounding drums. Ian says that this is the music to interpretive dance. He might be right.
