Marmalade by Bronco Bullfrog

Bronco Bullfrog pitch themselves as a ‘Psych-tinged Mod Pop’ band, and actually manage to deliver without sounding like a tired pastiche! Somehow they get the production just right, along with the vocal harmonies and the gentle kitchen-psychedelia of Marmalade’s lyrics. Double A-side 7” single in Sunstone.

Bronco Bullfrog are a psych pop band who caught our attention when they titled their last 7" 'Time Waits for Norman'. This time the A side is called 'Marmalade' but I can't figure out why*. The track has nothing to do with orange jam. What we get is an authentic piece of '60's aping pop that sits somewhere between the Beatles and the Who. Indeed they sound rather similar to '90's pop lads Velvet Crush.

*I've just figured out why 'Marmalade' was such an odd title for the A side. The labels have been mixed up. So just to be clear I've just described '(She's Having An) Existential Crisis'. I'm now onto 'Marmalade' which again is tough retro pop with a nod to Traffic here and a nod to the Move there. They are mods there's no doubt about it.
