The sleeve art to Chris Forsyth & Koen Holtkamp’s new record The Island gives you a good impression of what they achieve here. Over four tracks, the pair’s synths and guitars recline into a warm haze of sunset ambience. The two play off each other with lots of nice details, but all in service of the music’s blissful vibe. On Trouble In Mind.

Despite being just four songs long and rotating at a swift 45rpm, this still manages to be a mixed bag. It's the guy from Mountains and the guy from Paranoid Cat doing their kosmichey thing together. Opener 'Sun Blind' has all kinds of random fizzing synths going on before an acoustic guitar seemingly taken from a completely different genre wipes them out with one strum. The resulting track 'Long Beach Idyll' is pretty sweet with guitar interplay and some synths burbling about underneath. I accidentally put a Pink Floyd song on the other day and it sounded a bit like this. Overleaf 'Alternator' has a rocking kraut groove (no drums) - a bit bluesy this one. And the closer 'Cosmic Richard' has a bit of Durutti Column interplay and is nice and atmospheric.
In summary? Changeable.
