This is not the Leave A Trace the Chvrches album, but Leave A Trace the Chvrches single. Confusing eh? As well as the storming original track, this 10” also carries a slinky and exclusive remix by hardy perennial Four Tet, which makes this well worth getting your hands on. Heavyweight vinyl, released by Virgin.

Chvrches were one of the first bands to use an idiotic way of spelling their name so I’m going to forgive them more than I would everyone who has used the same trick since. They play very upbeat chart-friendly pop music that sits just to the left of your Taylor Swift tween-ready electronic pop by way of having some severely gloopy electronic bass burbling under the electronics. The singer has that high Scottish voice that’s been used by everyone from Clare Grogan to Manda Rin. I’d never listen to this in my normal run of life but if it came on the chart show or whatever it would stand out as somewhat superior.
Overleaf chief electronica lord Four Tet does his thing which is to build the track from the bottom up, adding some of his clicky beats to the electronics, eventually he brings in a vocal line in his repetitive way of doing things before stripping the whole thing back to a room shaking bassline. File under: interesting rather than essential.
