Young Danes Yung are a energetic indie rock group very keen on DIY aesthetics: the artwork and production of this EP was handled by the band themselves. These Thoughts Are Like Mandatory Chores bounces along vigorously with a nicely overdriven guitar sound, sharp slices of feedback punctuating the songs here and there. 12” EP on Tough Love.
6/10 Clinton Staff review, 23 September 2015On lovely pea green vinyl. I insisted yesterday that we played this in the office so I could get an idea of what it was like. Thirty minutes later Ian takes it off the stereo saying ‘that was ok’. I’d forgotten it was on and could barely remember a second of it. The general consensus backed up by todays second listen is that it’s a reasonable take on yer strummy ’90s indie rock. Opener ‘God’ has Wedding Present guitars and vocals Gedge could only achieve if he gargled tacs. ‘I Happened Again’ again recalls the Wedding Present, whereas ‘Blue Uniforms’... also recalls the Wedding Present. I’m sorry that I’m not being more varied in my comparisons. Overleaf ’Not a Shelter’ has that raggle tangle American slacker rock feel of Buffalo Tom in there as well as Dinosaur Jr. Do you see what I’m getting at? They are good at using those detuned sounding guitars that tug at the heartstrings but they are generally a good time band.
