Bert Jansch and John Renbourne are, quite rightly, two highly respected figures in the British folk tradition. Apparently they shared a flat at the time of Bert and John, and that intimacy really comes through in the sound of these pieces. Their delicious guitar lines mesh around each perfectly. Remastered and reissued by Sanctuary.
9/10 Jack Customer review, 18th October 2015
Donovan Leitch includes a hearty shout-out to his contemporary, Bert Jansch, with the tracks "Bert's Blues," and "House Of Jansch,", as well as in his own autobiography "Hurdy Gurdy Man," at which point I had to see what all the fuss was about. Bert and John feature some exceptional guitar playing in their incredibly distinctive blues/folk/jazz style. There is a warmth and electricity about this album's crisp mid-range and mid-sixties fidelity. Somewhat akin to the seminal jazz albums of the 1950s and 60s, there is an imperative to the playing and a tasteful, tuneful quality that will make you glad to have added this to your life's soundtrack.
