Another very necessary reissue of the excellent Laraaji’s early, premium works. All In One Peace collects three albums worth of material, allowing each to spread out to their full length, uninterrupted (the same could not be said of previous reissues). A triple cassette set, mirroring the tape medium Laraaji originally used. On Leaving Records.

8/10 Staff review, 16 September 2015

“It is with celestial pleasure and appreciation that I invite you forward and inward upon the journey of your healing listening experience.” Now if that isn’t the most polite intro to a spiritual zither 3-tape brick ever written then I’ll eat my hat, along with all my other possessions. Having most famously been the sound source for Eno’s naturalist 3rd ambient study, Laraaji (Edward Larry Gordon) now presents his formative years to you in three parts. I think Clint is trying to destress me with all this relaxing stuff, it’s impossible to hate.

These are early recordings that heavily feature his top fave instrument, the electric zither, and follow his transition from busker to audio-spiritual healer, the last tape played at a conference for spiritual healing in 1983. Musically, a lot of them take a freeform approach to the zither - heartfelt noodles like Don Robertson’s Celestial Ascent, while occasionally thwacking out what are pretty much rock groove riffs without distortion and all zithery. They wander around imaginary landscapes, winding this way and that, following serpentine impulse. The slithery zither. It’s all totally harmonious, the melodies deep, elongated by the delay pedal’s treatments. One thing to note is that it's pretty long being 3 tapes, but just think, you'll never be mad again.

As well as lovely sounds, the packaging is both lovely and simple in equal measure. A single band of orange cardboard inlaid with gold lettering. Mmm.
